Methyl Methacrylates are reactive adhesives based on methyl acrylic methyl ester. A hardner, dibenzoyl peroxide (typically added as a radical-former and N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine as an accelerator) are also present.
The curing of the reactive system comprising MMA monomers, radical-former(3-5%) and accelerator occurs via a radical chain polymerization. MMA adhesives cure as thermoplastics. They can withstand temperature between -50°C (-58°F) + 100°C (212°F)and even upto 180°C (356°F) (intermittently).
Methyl Methacrylates are engineered for structural bonding of nearly all thermoplastics, metal substrates, and composites materials, as well as for bonding similar and dissimilar substrates. MMA provides exceptional bond strength and extremely durable adhesives and insensitive to oil or grease on surfaces. Methyl Methacrylates help eliminate thermo-cycling and provide high peel and sheer strengths. They are chemical resistant and impact resistant.
