These adhesives are one-part solvent free thermoplastic adhesives that are solid at room temperature and has low to medium viscosity (750 cP – 10,000 cP) at dispense temperature of 195C or greater when cooled form a strong bond.

In cured or cooled state hot melt adhesives can vary in physical properties from soft, rubbery and very tacky to hard and rigid. These adhesives have excellent long term durability and resistance to moisture chemicals, oils, and temperature extremes.
Hot melt adhesives can be categorized in the following kinds:

  1. Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) – original version, lost cost, good adhesives but poor temperature resistant. Good for packaging industries and can be FDA compliant.
  2. Polyamide – high cost but higher performing adhesives with excellent high temperature resistance (upto 300F) / (149C)
  3. Polyolefin – it is designed to bond polyolefins like polypropylene and polyethylene plastics.
  4. Polyurethane (PUR) – it acts as an urethane prepolymer. It reacts with moisture in a few days to polymerize into a tough thermoset. It has high adhesion to metal and good heat resistance.
