Cyanoacrylates are one part room temperature curing adhesives. It is the generic name of a family of fast-acting adhesives with industrial, medical and household uses, they include methyl 2-Cyanocrylate, Methyl-2 cyanoacrylate (commonly called super glue)
Cyanoacrylate undergo anionic polymerization in the presence of weak base such as water and are stablized through addition of a weak acid. In addition to regular cyanoacrylate there are
- Rubber Toughened (High peel strength and impact resistant)
- Thermally Resistant (Excellent bond strength retention after exposure to temperature as high as 250°F / 121°C for thousand of hours)
- Surface Insensitive (acidic surfaces such as wood or metals which could slow cure system)
- Low odor/Low bloom (Minimizes the potential for white haze and odor)
- UV (Ultra Violet) activated cyanoacrylates are the new technology.
